There is a lot that can be achieved on MS teams or Zoom, but sometimes, just getting in the room with colleagues or clients just makes life easier. Be it tough decisions or team updates, client presentations or just meet and greets getting there in person just makes sense.

We took part of the northern team of a company we work for down to meet with the southern part of the team. The plan was to meet in London, but due to some last minute changes by the engagement team, the location changed mid journey. What was going to be Central London now became out to the East, a nice little detour round the M25 to the conference venue.

We’d picked up one manager from north of the Amber Valley, then dropped into West Bridgford, Nottingham to pick up another manager. Travelling in the same car, they had a couple of hours to chat through options, make some decisions and feel fully prepped for the day ahead. Due to the sensitive nature of the conversations, discussing this on a train just wasn’t an option.

Like Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit, It was a tale of there and back again. Although we had no problems with Dwarves, Dragons and there wasn’t a Hobbit in sight! After dropping passengers, our Driver parked up and stayed close. Although there was a designated time for pick ups and return journeys, keeping the car close made sense as meetings can easily finish early or late.
As expected, we were outside the venue ready for the journey back when our clients were.
